Bush Admin Admits they Favor Censorship of Critics

Bush administration officials are concerned about a novel written in Turkey by Turkish authors in the Turkish language for a Turkish audience which is critical of Bush Administration policy and has reached the Turkish best sellers’ list. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, admitted to Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul that the Bush administration wishes they had more influence on Hollywood, and that if they did, “the Bush administration would not have allowed the making of Michael Moore’s movie ‘Fahrenheit 9/11’” according to a US official who witnessed the conversation. Disney Corporation which owns the ABC television network tried hard to block the release of Fahrenheit 9/11 before the US election. Of course the reality that the Bush administration enjoys censoring those critical of them whenever they can is no surprise. What is a surprise is that they are willing to admit it in public. At least in Turkey. The story of this admission was found buried near the bottom of page 8 of Sunday’s Chicago Tribune newspaper, and merited only a passing reference.
