Bush and His Administration Rewrite History - Again

President Bush and his supporters are very fond of calling those who disagree with him revisionist historians claiming that they are re-writing history, but without exception it is Bush and his apologists who are changing history to suit their ideology. A very thoughtful article explaining the revisionist historian-in-chief’s latest revisions can be read here. The article takes recent claims apart one by one: much of what has been posted here in the past, but in a more succinct and complete handling. Four main claims are refuted: that Congress saw the same intelligence as Bush, that the Senate concluded that intelligence had not been manipulated, that the White House had not pressured the intelligence community to support its policies, and that Bush and his supporters are not the ones rewriting history. All four tall tales are refuted in the article. It is worth a read.

Quotes for the day:

"In Iraq, there will not be a signing ceremony on the deck of a battleship."
President Bush, November 30, 2005.

"In the battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed."
President Bush, on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln, May 1, 2003.

Criticizing President During Wartime is Patriotic – Just Ask Republicans of the Past

Criticism of the president even during war is a Republican tradition that goes back to the first Republican president and continues to the present age.

The first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln, while he was a Congressman during the Mexican American War – a war declared by Congress – openly challenged Democratic President James Polk insisting that the president had lied to Congress and the American people in order to start the war. Lincoln demanded the proof of the claims that Polk had made (the equivalent of Bush’s claims that Iraq had WMDs including nuclear weapons and that Saddam Hussein was behind 9/11 – both claims have since been proven false) history records that Lincoln was right to accuse the President of lying the country into war.

Being critical of the decisions of a particular president does not constitute disloyalty to the United States. Many other patriotic Americans of the past have made that point. Teddy Roosevelt made that clear when he, as a former Republican US President, often criticized then Democratic US President Woodrow Wilson during World War I. Roosevelt wrote in a famous quote:

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonous to the American public.”
- Teddy Roosevelt, in 1918 during the First World War

His point was that even in a time of war the US people must be allowed to criticize elected officials including the President, and anyone who tries to prevent or block such criticism is the un-American unpatriotic even treasonous one. This is because our nation became the greatest nation on earth because we allow the citizens to openly criticize the President even in a time of a declared war. And to block that will ultimately result in a less great United States. Anyone who participates in the lessoning of the US by blocking criticism is, in Teddy Roosevelt’s estimation, a traitor.

Another Republican leader said much the same during World War II after the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese:

“Too many people desire to suppress criticism simply because they think it will give some comfort to the enemy... if that comfort makes the enemy feel better for a few moments they are welcome to it... because the maintenance of the right to criticism in the long run will do the country maintaining it a good deal more good than it will do the enemy.”
- Republican Senator Robert A. Taft, head of the Republican Party, criticizing FDR after the Pearl Harbor attack.

Here Republican Party chief Robert Taft was saying that the excuse that criticism of the Government during time of war is giving aid and comfort to the enemy is nonsense. Since any comfort the enemy may take in the criticism is more than made up for by the benefit to the United States of having the free right to make such criticism. Taft was highly critical of Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt after we were attacked at Pearl Harbor and throughout the Second World War. Taft and his fellow Republicans had every right to be critical of the President even during wartime. It’s every American’s right.

Another former Republican President, Dwight D. Eisenhower, said much the same:

“Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels - men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, may we never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion.”
- Dwight D. Eisenhower in the aftermath of McCarthyism

Eisenhower really hit the nail on the head with that quote. Our country was founded by men and women who had the guts to criticize and oppose polices that were against the best interest of the people of our country. Continuing with that process is quintessentially American and patriotic and therefore beneficial and essential to the bettering of our nation. Opposing the right to do so is naturally the opposite of that.

These Republican leaders of the past were 100% right to defend the American right to disagree with the President even during war. To question the President’s truthfulness and even accuse him of lying to start a war if there is any suspicion he did so. They were 100% right to dismiss the charges that criticism of the President or his administration gives aid and comfort to the enemy. The enemy gets great comfort when the American people’s right to criticize the President is taken away or disparaged as unpatriotic. That is Treason as Teddy Roosevelt observed. Our nation was born out of the efforts of Americans brave enough to stand up to those in power and challenge their authority and we should not dishonor them by denying citizens the right to continue that American tradition.

During Clinton’s Presidency many Americans including Republican leaders were critical of him and his policies even during Operation Desert Fox in 1998 when US forces were attacking Saddam’s military installations. No one was stupid enough to call those critical of Clinton un-American or traitors.

But as soon as George W. Bush became President his supporters called those who protested his policies traitors and un-American. As the Iraq War continued they said those critical of him were giving aid and comfort to the enemy. They claimed that they alone carried the spirit of the founders of our nation when the exact opposite was the truth.

Let us continue the tradition of Republican leaders of the past and the founding fathers and celebrate the right and obligation of Americans to stand up to politicians who fail to act in the best interest of the people of our nation. That is our American heritage! That is what it means to be truly American!

Bush Admin Says Congress Saw Same Intelligence – Bush Admin Still Withholding Key Pre-War Intel From Congress – Therefore: the Bush Admin is Lying!

The Bush Administration still refuses to hand over hundreds of intelligence documents known as PDBs (Presidential Daily Briefings) concerning what was known before the Iraq War including a document from ten days after September 11, 2001, stating that the U.S. intelligence community had no evidence linking the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein to the 9-11 attacks and that there was scant credible evidence that Iraq had any significant collaborative ties with Al Qaeda. The September 11 Commission (which was appointed by Bush and headed by Republican Governor Kean) found exactly the same thing that Bush and his Administration were told September 21, 2001: Saddam was not behind the 9-11 attacks and Saddam had no operational links to al Qaeda. President Bush and his lieutenants in both Government and the Mainstream Media continued to mislead the American People about Saddam and September 11 until the invasion of Iraq. Bush still refuses to turn over this intelligence document and a mountain of other pre-war intelligence. He and his supporters in Government and the Press have the cajones to say that Congress saw the same intelligence that they did while Bush continues to refuse to turn over pre-war intelligence to Congress. The Lapdog Corporate Mainstream Media refuses to inform the American people that this is easily shown to be false which is their standard practice for at least the last 5 years (actually more). How people can say that Congress saw the same intelligence as Bush and his people did when there is concrete easily shown proof that this is a lie is beyond me. The fact that they know that the obedient News Media Outlets will keep their lie a secret is the only reason. When will we get our contry back? When they're done destroying it?

Supreme Court Justice Scalia Sullies Himself and the Supreme Court Again By Proving Himself to be a GOP Political Hack Lying to the American People

Every day the GOP damages the United States more. I fear their greed and power lust has done lasting and quite probably irreparable damage to our country and it is our children and grandchildren who will pay the price living in a US less noble and honorable than the one we inherited. Today it was Scalia who lied and dragged the Supreme Court into the muck that is the cesspool of Republican rhetoric. Not convinced? Read this to see that Scalia is lying. Or here to see how Scalia is guilty of judicial activism by his own words. Here is another good analysis showing that Scalia is a baldfaced liar.

Note that Democrats didn’t reopen this issue; Republican Antonin Scalia reopened the issue and brazenly lied about the two main points in doing so! Scalia lies about who brought the suit to the Supreme Court (it was Bush v. Gore NOT Gore v. Bush showing that it was Bush who brought the case to the court) and he lies that recounts after the election showed Bush would have won. In 3 of 9 scenarios – the least likely – Bush would have won BUT in 6 of 9 – including the two most likely – Gore received the most votes. The Corporate Mainstream Media just kept those results quiet like they kept stories of vote rigging in the 2004 election quiet.

So what happens when Scalia lies about 2000 and his role in it? As usual the Lapdog Corporate Media is keeping quiet on this even though his statement are easily shown to be lies. I weep for our nation. I wish Republicans in the US loved our country half as much as we do or one tenth as much as they pretend to. They have wiped their asses with the Constitution and urinated on Lady Liberty crowing that they are patriotic while they piss on our posterity. I weep for our nation and our children who will suffer for the GOP's greed and lust for power.

CIA Chief Bush Appointed Admits “Torture Does Not Work” So Why Are Cheney and Bush Insisting CIA Be Allowed to Torture? For Fun?

CIA Chief Porter Goss who was appointed by President Bush has formally admitted “Torture does not work.” So why are Dick Cheney and George W. Bush insisting that Congress allow the CIA to torture people? For fun? If it doesn’t work, why in the world would we do it? Former CIA chiefs and other Intelligence Officers agree that torture only gets the subject to tell you what they think you want to hear in order to make you stop. It’s great for coercing false statements, but lousy for revealing true intelligence. Military experts including Colin Powell as well as Republicans in Congress who have actually served in the military agree that the US allowing torture will lead to our enemies torturing US troops and using our allowing torture as an excuse. In spite of the danger allowing torture presents future US military servicemembers, Vice President Cheney and President Bush have demanded that Congress allow the CIA to torture. I repeat CIA Chief Porter Goss who was appointed by President Bush has formally admitted “Torture does not work” and all the other experts agree. Why would we allow an immoral act that does not work, that destroys our country’s reputation and endangers our troops? Ask Bush and Cheney!

Corporate Media Shows Pro-Bush Bias in Labeling Democrats

When conservative Democratic hawk, John Murtha, called for moving US troops out of Iraq at the first practical opportunity (provided certain measures insuring stabilizing the Middle East are met) the Corporate Mainstream Media began to refer to him either as a pro-military Democrat (insinuating that the rest of the Democrats are anti-military) or as a “usually pro-military” Democrat insinuating that suggesting that US troops should leave Iraq and stop being targets for increasingly angry Iraqis is anti-military. This article points out that over the last five years Republicans have consistently voted to cut veterans benefits, voted against increasing benefits for service members killed in service, 184 Democrats in the House voted* to compensate for a $1 billion shortfall in spending for veterans caused by the federal deficit -- but many of whom also voted against the Iraq war resolution -- "anti-military"? What about those 216 Republicans who voted against increasing veterans' benefits, the vast majority of whom voted for the war resolution? Are they pro or anti-military? And what about the 44 Senate Democrats who voted for Sen. John F. Kerry's (D-MA) amendment increasing death benefits to military families -- many of whom also voted against the Iraq war resolution? And the 25 Republicans who voted against the Kerry amendment?

As recently as June, the Washington Post reported that the Senate Republican majority had repeatedly rejected amendments put forth by Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) that would have increased spending for veterans. Pro- or anti-military Republicans?

In 2004 Republican Rep. Christopher H. Smith (NJ), then-chairman of a House Veterans Affairs subcommittee, called for such increases; his own party summarily removed him as chairman two years shy of the end of his term. A Media Matters for America search has found no instances of the Washington Post or other members of the Corporate Mainstream Media reporting that "anti-veteran" Republicans ousted their own Veterans Affairs chairman.

Clearly the Lapdog Media is misrepresenting the pro verses anti-military nature of our elected officials. Liberal Media? MY ASS!

Corporate Mainstream Media Indicted for Lying to US Public

Special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald indicted I. Lewis ''Scooter" Libby Jr. on criminal charges, including obstruction of justice, making a false statement and perjury in the CIA leak investigation. The press indicted itself on grounds of coziness, self-interest, and dishonesty.

Both Miller and Woodward said that their highest priority was protecting their source. Not informing the public the truth; just protecting their sources which turned out to be two high-ranking senior officials in the Bush Administration. Note that they weren’t protecting whistleblowers who were informing the public of something illegal they were protecting criminals who committed treason by revealing the identity of an undercover CIA operative working to keep weapons of mass destruction from falling into the hands of terrorists and other enemies of our country. And they did this in order to punish someone, Joe Wilson, who WAS a whistleblower revealing that President Bush mislead the American people in his State of the Union address using forged documents as his “proof” that Saddam was buying Uranium from Niger. A charge that was proved false as soon as international organizations got a one hour look at the forged documents that the Bush Administration had for more than a year presumably without realizing that they were easily proved forgeries with the wrong names on them. The CIA had warned the Bush Administration three months before not to use the false “evidence.” Deputy National Security Advisor, Stephen Hadley, took responsibility for putting the lie into the State of the Union Address claiming he forgot that the CIA told him to remove the claim from an earlier Bush speech. Was Hadley fired for this? Why, NO! He was PROMOTED to National Security Advisor replacing Condoleezza Rice when she was promoted to Secretary of State.

Fox Partakes in Using False Information to Exonerate Lewis “Scooter” Libby

The Fox News Channel isn’t the only member of the Corporate Mainstream Media peddling this lie. But Fox peddles lies more than the rest of the morally bankrupt Mainstream Media, and fortunately for them their viewers are stupid enough to believe their lies. Numerous studies and polls have shown Fox News viewers are the least well informed Americans scoring at the very bottom on the issues. Here’s how this latest lie goes. Bob Woodward has just come forward saying that a third senior member of the Bush Administration told him that Joe Wilson’s wife was an undercover CIA agent and that was days before Libby told NY Times reporter Judy Miller and before Karl Rove told reporter Matt Cooper and before he told reporter/traitor Robert Novak so therefore the case against Libby falls apart. Gee, let’s see…Libby was indicted for lying to the FBI, lying under oath to the grand jury (also known as perjury) and for obstruction of justice. The fact that a third high-ranking official of the Bush Administration was engaged in revealing Wilson’s wife’s identity as a CIA agent and told yet another reporter doesn’t change Libby’s crimes it actually shows that more and more members of the Bush administration are criminals. Something those of us who have been reading news articles from various sources and not relying on TV news lies have known for a long time.

Billions of US Tax Dollars Meant for Schools and Hospitals Siphoned off as Bribes and Payoffs in Afghanistan

This short video (after the introductory commercial) shows how billions of US tax dollars are being siphoned off as bribes and payoffs in Afghanistan. This money was supposed to be used to build schools and hospitals which are falling apart as soon as they are built because of shoddy construction allowed because of bribes and extortion.

German Intel Agency told Bush Admin Source of False Iraq Info Was Liar – Bush Admin Withheld that from Congress and Americans

German intelligence officers who had worked with Curveball, the Iraqi source the Bush Administration relied upon for information to sell the Iraq War to Congress and the American public for six years, told the Bush Administration that Curveball was unreliable, psychologically unstable, and should not be believed. Five senior officials from Germany's Federal Intelligence Service, or BND, said that they warned the US about Curveball’s unreliability.

“This was not substantial evidence,” said a senior German intelligence official. “We made clear we could not verify the things he said.”

When pushing for war with Congress and the US public, the Bush Administration withheld these important facts. German intelligence officials who know Curveball best say that the Bush Admin even exaggerated the unreliable claims Curveball made further stretching the truth to fit their desire for war. Curveball is believed to be the source that the Bush Administration provided Judith Miller for her pre-war articles in the New York Times selling the war to the American people. Miller also relied upon Ahmed Chalabi, a convicted bank embezzler who is being investigated for revealing US intelligence to Iran causing enormous damage to our National Security. Despite this Chalabi was given a hero’s welcome by the Bush Administration last week when he arrived in Washington. Chalabi also supplied the Bush Administration information used to sell the war to the public. Chalabi’s information was later proved to be false as was Curveball’s. When Curveball will be welcomed into Washington as a hero by the Bush Administration has not yet been decided.

Curveball was the chief source of inaccurate prewar U.S. accusations that Baghdad had biological weapons, a commission appointed by President Bush reported this year. The White House, for example, ignored evidence gathered by United Nations weapons inspectors shortly before the war that disproved Curveball's account. Bush and his aides issued increasingly dire warnings about Iraq's biological weapons before the war even though intelligence from Curveball was over two years old.”

“German intelligence officials warned the CIA and the Bush Administration that Curveball never claimed to have been involved in germ weapons production, and never saw anyone else do so. His information was mostly vague, secondhand and impossible to confirm, they told the Americans – ‘water cooler gossip’ according to one source.”

An article by Col. Patrick W. Lang (Ret.), a highly decorated retired senior officer of U.S. Military Intelligence and U.S. Army Special Forces, who served as “Defense Intelligence Officer for the Middle East, South Asia and Terrorism" for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA)continues this discussion.

Bush Admin’s Detroit Sleeper Cell Case So False, Justice Dept. Prosecutors Could Face Charges

The Bush Administration hailed the Detroit Sleeper Cell case as a shining example of their anti-terrorist efforts. An article now reveals, “As hidden evidence spilled out and the Justice Department abandoned the effort, federal investigators began to wonder whether the true conspiracy in the case was perpetrated by the prosecution.” A grand jury has been called to investigate the Justice Dept. prosecutors.

“Information in public documents and testimony in U.S. District Court in Detroit suggest an effort by federal prosecutors and important witnesses to mislead defense lawyers and deceive the jury. U.S. District Judge Gerald E. Rosen said the government acted ‘outside the Constitution.’”

Ghost of Eisenhower says Current Neo-Con GOP Headed for Slagheap

"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believe you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."
– President Dwight D. Eisenhower, November 8, 1954

Bush Admin Appointees Try to Keep Blacks from Voting – Moves Have Been Deemed Unconstitutional

Political appointees in the Bush Administration are overruling the judgments of Justice Department attorneys who have spent their careers working on protecting the rights of American citizens. In August seasoned Justice Department lawyers expert in voters’ rights ruled that a recent Georgia law that required voters without drivers’ licenses (a larger portion of inner city black Georgians do not have drivers’ licenses because of the cost of owning, parking and maintaining a car in an urban setting) to buy a special voters ID for $20 before they would be allowed to vote was unfair and illegal. Previously a person without a driver’s license could use another form of ID to vote, but under the new Georgia law they would have to buy a costly voter’s ID. This $20 voter’s ID is nothing more than a modern version of the poll tax instituted in the Deep South to keep blacks from voting by charging black people to vote. Under the Poll Tax laws instituted at the end of slavery those whose grandfather was allowed to vote (i.e were white) could vote without paying the tax, but those whose grandfather could not vote (i.e. was a slave) would have to pay in order to vote. That was illegal. The new Georgia voter ID tax for anyone who doesn’t have a driver’s license which was approved by Georgia’s Republican legislature and signed into law by Georgia’s Republican Governor was deemed as targeting reducing black voting by these experienced Justice Department lawyers expert in voters rights laws. The political appointees that Bush put in to oversee them overruled their decision and said that the new Poll Tax could go into law.

Since the Voters’ Rights Act of 1965 passed political appointees in the Justice Department have accepted the analysis of the legal experts and not overruled their expertise. The Bush Administration is the first administration in 40 years to overrule the experts. Since then the both Republican and Democrat judges at two levels of the courts have ruled the Georgia law as unconstitutional violations of black voters’ rights and the Bush appointee’s overruling has been overruled. Nice try Bush! Read the article here.

Bush Administration Stopped Looking for Dead Bodies in New Orleans Oct. 3 – Bodies are Still Being Found by Locals Returning Home

On October 3, the Bush Administration said that they had found all of the dead bodies of victims of Hurricane Katrina. They said they completed the job. Actually they knew that countless homes had not yet and have not yet been searched. Dozens of Hurricane victims have returned to their homes finding dead loved ones lying in their homes waiting for them. Maybe it's their mother or their grandmother, sometimes even their missing child. 104 have been found since the Bush Administration ended searches over a month ago. Ten more were found just in the last two weeks. 636 bodies remain unidentified. Read this article about a man who just returned home to find his dead and decaying grandmother’s corpse rotting in his living room. Authorities expect that this will go on for many more months. The Bush Admin gave up and left the residents of the State of Louisiana to finish the job. You’re doing a heck of a job, Brownie, er I mean, Bushie!

Update: Also in the aftermath of Katrina, the Bush Administration gave sweetheart no-bid contracts to companies financially and politically connected with members of his administration including Cheney’s old company Halliburton and Rumsfeld’s old company Bechtel. More than a month ago under pressure from real Americans, FEMA promised to reopen the contracts so that companies would bid on the jobs rather than just giving them to well-connected cronies. More than a month later they have done nothing to fulfill that promise! There is no current activity in the Bush Administration to fulfill that promise! Bush put Karl Rove who is suspected of committing treason in charge of the handling of post-Katrina activities. Heck of a job!

Ohio Reports Impossible Election Results—Again

In the 2004 General Election exit polling and pre-election polling showed results that varied wildly from the “official” tallies of votes. Most of the discrepancies came from electronic voting machines from Diebold whose CEO, Wally O’Dell, before the election told Bush Supporters that he guaranteed he would deliver all of Ohio’s electoral college votes to Bush. After the election statistical experts reported that the Diebold results were impossible given the pre-election and exit polling numbers. Republicans in Congress and in the Ohio State Government refused to investigate this.

Well this year it happened again in the election just completed. For one election issue, Issue 1, that the GOP supported, the pre-election polling matched the official count to 1 percent. But on other issues regarding election reform that the GOP opposed the “official” tally differed wildly from the pre-polling numbers and actually reversed the outcome. Read this article and this article which go into more detail. Read about the non-partisan GAO report which confirmed that those very Diebold voting machines have very poor security and are easily tampered with. Ohio is the state whose elected officials have recently been accused of funneling pension funds and other money of the citizens of Ohio into risky investments and into the Bush-Cheney campaign funds. If the Corporate Media bothered to investigate these election results and report on this, the American people might discover that elections have been stolen. Quite possibly even the 2004 presidential election in which similar unlikely vote counts came out of the Diebold machines. Will the Lapdog Media bite the GOP hand that feeds them? Probably not. Hence blogs like this one which get the news out.

I’m not saying that we have iron-clad proof that the elections were stolen. But these results are very suspicious. Combine them with the fact that the Republicans in Congress refused to investigate these voting irregularities in 2004 and even denied the Democrats meeting rooms to conduct their own legally unbinding hearings into the irregularities. As well as the Ohio State Republican’s refusal to investigate these and their desire to see the election reform issues defeated despite pre-election certainty that they would pass. Suddenly the vote totals reversed the numbers of the people casting votes in those elections. Highly suspicious, but the Republican Party insists that we MUST NOT investigate the irregularities despite the non-partisan GAO report which confirmed that those very Diebold voting machines have very poor security and are easily tampered with. “Nothing to see here. Move along,” says the Republican Party.

Bush Admin and Apologists Claim Rest of World Thought Saddam Had WMD and Was a Threat – WRONG!

One after another Bush Administration officials and their apologists have trotted out the latest talking points claiming that prior to the invasion of Iraq the Intelligence agencies of the rest of the world thought that Saddam had WMD and was a threat. That claim is false as this article points out clearly. All of the countries they list as believing that Saddam was a threat actually did not as the article shows. The Bush Administration is engaging in Revisionist History which they accuse everyone else of doing. Each time they accuse others of Revisionist History it is they who are revising history to cover their actions.

The Bush Admin , their apologists and their lackeys in the Corporate Mainstream Media keep repeating these lies along with lies that Congress saw the same intelligence as the Bush Admin and that a commission absolved the Bush Admin of manipulating intelligence to push for war. They believe that repeating these lies over and over again without any correction from the Lapdog Media the American people will continue to believe their lies. This worked earlier in the Bush Administration, but more and more Americans are wising up to the fact that the Mainstream Media is deliberately misleading them in an attempt to curry favor wit the party in power. US Newspapers[sic] are losing readers, radio news[sic] is losing listeners, and televised news [sic] is losing viewers as the American people wake up to the fact that they have been manipulated and mislead for years. More and more Americans are turning to Internet sources for information including news agencies from other nations which aren’t embedded in the White House. Thanks to thinkprogress.org for uncovering this and more inaccuracies coming out of the US news outlets.

Returning to the topic of whether members of the Bush Administration mislead the nation into war: retired Air Force Major James Bruner points out that back in March of 2004 the House of Representatives Committee on Government Reform reported 237 separate instances where President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Colin Powell, Condoleezza Rice and Donald Rumsfeld made “outright false and deceptive public statements” to urge the country to war starting more than a year before the war began. Those deceptive statements continued until the war began and continued long after. US News [sic] outlets have not bothered to inform the public about this either.

Bush Admin says Congress Saw Same Intelligence before War and that Independent Commissions Cleared Them of Manipulating Pre-War Intel: Both are Lies

President Bush and his national security adviser have answered critics of the Iraq war in recent days with a two-pronged argument: that Congress saw the same intelligence the administration did before the war, and that independent commissions have determined that the administration did not misrepresent the intelligence. Both are lies!

Bush and his aides had access to much more voluminous intelligence information than did lawmakers, who were dependent on the administration to provide the material. And the commissions cited by officials, though concluding that the administration did not pressure intelligence analysts to change their conclusions, were not authorized to determine whether the administration exaggerated or distorted those conclusions.

Bush’s apologists have been busy spreading the lie that the “bipartisan Silberman-Robb commission found no evidence of political manufacture and manipulation of intelligence.” When in fact the Silberman-Robb commission actually said, “We were not authorized to investigate how policymakers used the intelligence assessments they received from the Intelligence Community. Accordingly, while we interviewed a host of current and former policymakers during the course of our investigation, the purpose of those interviews was to learn about how the Intelligence Community reached and communicated its judgments about Iraq's weapons programs--not to review how policymakers subsequently used that information.” Thanks to Josh Marshall for pointing out that lie. In spite of the fact that this is an obvious lie the GOP keeps repeating it and the Lapdog Corporate Media refuses to expose them as the liars they are.

With regard to the minipulation of intelligence as shown here and elsewhere a Senate Report shows that the Bush Administration did distort the NIE (the national intelligence estimate) used to convince Congress and the US that War with Iraq was justified. A more thorough investigation of whether officials misused intelligence was promised a year and a half ago, but Senate Republicans have sat on their asses instead of proceeding with the investigation!

Bill O’Reilly Invites Al Qaeda to Attack US Again! FCC Refuses to Sanction.

On November 8th on his radio program The Radio Factor, Bill O’Reilly said, "And if Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you [San Francisco] up, we're not going to do anything about it. We're going to say, look, every other place in America is off limits to you, except San Francisco. You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead."

As a real American, I believe in freedom. But I do NOT believe that any American is free to invite Al Qaeda to attack our country again especially not broadcast on our citizen owned airwaves. That is not freedom that is treason! I don't care if it is a conservative Republican or a liberal Democrat who did it. No one should be allowed to call for terrorism against our nation on the air. I don't care if he thought he was joking. That's NOT a joking matter! And I don’t think he was even joking.

Sixty per cent of the voters in San Francisco voted to recommend that schools ask military recruiters not to recruit at high schools. The ballot isn’t legally binding and is only symbolic. But Terrorist Bill invited Al Qaeda to attack San Francisco saying that America would let them do it and get away with it.

Did the Bush Administration’s FCC sanction O’Reilly for his act of treason in inviting our nation’s enemy to attack us again? No. The Bush Administration’s FCC also failed to go after televangelist and Bush supporter Pat Robertson when he called for the US to assassinate the president of Venezuela or when Robertson called for someone to drop a nuclear bomb on the US State Department or when he said that liberal judges were a greater danger to America than a bunch of bearded Muslims hijacking planes and crashing them into buildings in the US. Conservative radio hosts have called for listeners to assassinate Hillary Clinton and other Democratic politicians. The Bush Administration does nothing. But an Episcopalian minister preaches against war based on the teachings of Jesus Christ and Bush sicks the IRS on them threatening to remove their tax exempt status while retaining the tax exempt status of Churches that held Bush-Cheney campaign rallies or broadcast Bill Frist and other Republicans political diatribes as “sermons.” Bush is using the FCC and the IRS as his own KGB going after those critical of him, but ignoring when his supporters violate the law. Bush himself taunted Iraqi insergents to kill US soldiers. Remember “Bring em on!” This is reprehensible!

Update 11/15/2005: After O’Reilly invited al Qaeda to attack the US again he responded to criticism of his statement by saying that he stood by his words and meant every word he said. On his show November 14 O’Reilly defended his remarks but he left out the part where he gave al Qaeda the all clear, “If Al Qaeda comes in here [San Francisco] and blows you up, we're not going to do anything about it.” and the part where he spoke directly to al Qaeda inviting them to attack us, “You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead.” Now (perhaps as a result of speaking to his or Fox’s attorney’s) he has changed his tune, and claims that his statement was satire. But he goes farther to say that he will post the names of anyone who was critical of his original call for al Qaeda to attack San Francisco and in those posts to his website he will claim that his critics are actually anti-military. So O’Reilly is going to defame as anti-US-military all Americans who were disgusted by his invitation to al Qaeda to attack our country again. If he does this, O’Reilly will be opening himself up to million dollar libel suits from any private citizen (non-public figures) who O’Reilly defames on his site. As I have demonstrated here on this site and elsewhere many times: no one is as supportive of the men and women serving our nation in uniform as I am. If O’Reilly includes my name or website in his defaming posts, I will certainly sue him for any damage done to my reputation as a result of his ridiculous attempts at vengeance against American’s opposed to inviting terrorism. O’Reilly first invites terrorists to attack the US, and now he threatens to unjustly defame anyone critical of his reckless actions. Unbelievable!

Let them know that inviting Al Qaeda to attack the US again on the air will NOT be tollerated and we will not buy from companies that advertise on his radio show.

Thanks to Daily Kos for this Operation Falafel.

One correction www.freedomkeys.com has assured me that they do not air Bill O'Reilly and in fact "can't stand him." So I have removed them from the list above. Also Equifax is no longer a sponsor of Bill O’Reilly’s show. They assured me that they ended their sponsorship of the Radio Factor.

Senate Inteligence Commitee Found Evidence Bush Administration Manipulated Case For War

As shown in this article the Senate Inteligence Committee found a number of instances where the public NIE (the National Inteligence Estimate version shown to the public and members of Congress) was changed to make the case for War with Iraq stronger whereas the original classified NIE that was not shown to the public or most of the members of Congress. The original NIE included dissenting opionions not included in the public verison. In some cases the Bush Adinistration removed dissenting viewpoints. In other cases they inserted words to make the case for war more compelling. The Bush Administration released the public NIE as a response to chargest that the pre-war inteligence did not make a compelling case for war. So the Bush administration created the public version that was sustantially changed to make the case stronger. They did this after the fact. There may be other areas where the public NIE was doctored to strengthen the case for war, but corresponding parts of the original NIE are still classified. Any parts of the Senate report dealing with those are also classified. The parts that were declassified and included in the Senate report available to the public show that Bush Administration cooked the books on the NIE.

Senate Republicans have so far delayed a full investigation into charges that the Bush Administration misued intel to push for war. They promised to investigate more than a year and a half ago, but until Democrats forced a closed door meeting on November 1 nothing had been done on what is called Phase II. The Mainstream Media has failed to highlight this. In fact the Corporate Media has been repeating the false claims of the White House without bothering to correct them. They’ve also claimed that the White House and Congress saw the same inteligence before the war. This is not the case! Congress members (even members of the Intelligence Committees) are not privy to the Presidential Daily Briefing (PDB) -- a written summary of intelligence information that the CIA provides to the president. (The White House even withheld from Senate investigators the PDBs on Iraq delivered to the Oval Office prior to the war.). Read this article to learn more about this topic.

Happy Veteran’s Day!

I want to wish a very happy Veteran’s Day to all currently in military service and all those who have served in the US military including my cousin who served in the Iraq War. Thank you one and all for your sacrifice on our behalf.

Right at the start of the Iraq War I wrote a letter to the editor thanking all who have serviced in the US armed services. I explained even those who disagreed with President Bush’s decision to invade Iraq appreciate the service and sacrifice of US service members and I thanked them for their service. I sent this letter to over a dozen US newspapers, and only one printed it. That one newspaper was Stars and Stripes the official newspaper of the US military. I received a personal call from the letters editor thanking me for my letter. They published the letter twice. The stateside newspapers were at that time and since engaging in a deception that those who disagreed with Bush on invading Iraq did NOT support the troops. This was the message broadcast every evening on televised news and in print, although everyone I know who opposed the Iraq War very much support the troops and appreciate their sacrifice. Once the war started I sent emails to service members thanking them for their service and letting them know that those of us who disagree with Bush thank them and have nothing against them. I started donating blood every eight weeks to a blood bank that provides some of their blood to US service members so that anyone wounded in this war could have my blood with my heartfelt thanks.

So many Bush supporters think they have a monopoly on appreciation for our troops, but this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Republicans in Congress have been cutting funding for veterans from the start of this administration; the Defense Department has shortchanged servicemen and women by not providing them adequate armor and supplies that their families have had to buy for them because Rumsfeld won’t; Republicans in Congress announced on Tuesday that for the first time in at least 55 years, “veterans service organizations will no longer have the opportunity to present testimony before a joint hearing of the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees;” our brave men and women have been put in harms way, and the Bush Administration refuses to tell us the truth about this conflict. That is NOT supporting the troops.

Veterans themselves are questioning whether President Bush and members of his administration have any concern for our troops and with good reason. Iraq War Veterans are calling for a thorough investigation of the Bush Administration’s use or misuse of pre-war intelligence. Something that Republicans and their lackeys in the Mainstream Media are trying to prevent.

Again thank you to all servicemen and women current and past and a very happy Veteran’s Day to all.

If the Bush Admin is Innocent Why are Republicans in Congress and in the Mainstream Media Blocking an Investigation?

Journalist Kevin Drum asks the question many of us truly patriotic Americans have been asking without getting an adequate answer, “If it's really true that the Bush administration did nothing to spin, exaggerate, or lie about WMD before the war, why are war supporters so relentlessly trying to suppress any congressional investigation into this? You'd think they'd welcome it instead. For a bunch of innocent bystanders, they sure are acting awfully guilty.”

It turns out that the Bush Administration had many experts who did NOT believe that Saddam had WMD: “INR, for example, thought the African uranium was bogus [it turned out it was based on forged documents easily shown to be forgeries]. DIA thought our prime witness for Iraqi-al-Qaeda WMD collaboration was lying [he was]. The Air Force found the evidence on drones to be laughable [they were]. DOE didn't believe in the aluminum tubes [they were right!]. None of these dissents was acknowledged by the Bush administration.” The Bush Administration religiously suppressed all experts who disagreed with their arguments for war which all were later shown to be false including the claim that Saddam was behind the September 11 attacks and had operational links to al-Qaeda. Bush himself had to admit that Saddam was not behind 9/11 and that we never had any evidence he was back in September of 2003 six months after Bush sent US troops into Iraq. The 9//11 Commission led by a Republican appointed by Bush admitted that Saddam’s Iraq had no operational links to al-Qaeda and never had. Experts in the Bush Administration doubted Bush and Cheney’s claims. The Bush Administration kept these dissenting views from the public.

If this is not true and Bush and Cheney did not ignore experts with dissenting views in order to push for war, then a thorough independent investigation would find that out. If they fully cooperate with the investigation it could conclude in time for the 2006 midterm elections in November of 2006 and help the Republicans win big in the polls. So why are Republicans in Congress and Conservative Pundits in the Mainstream Media trying to block an investigation? Answer: they know that Bush and Cheney did block dissenting views in order to push for war and then according to recent surveys the public would demand impeachment for all those responsible including Bush and Cheney.

President Bush's War on People of Faith – Bush’s IRS Intimidates Churches that Don’t Submit to his Ideology – Gives a Pass to Those Who Do

Guest: Amy Sullivan

BUSH'S WAR ON PEOPLE OF FAITH....Today we learn that Bush's IRS is investigating a prominent liberal Episcopal church because of a sermon last fall in which the minister condemned Bush's policy in Iraq. (No word on whether the agency is also going after the Baptist church that kicked out members who voted for John Kerry. Or the churches that helped out the Bush/Cheney campaign last year by sending in their membership directories. Or the Catholic priests who told parishioners it would be a sin to vote for Kerry.)

Don't cry for the Episcopalians, though. They had an out. The IRS offered them a sweet deal: Admit that you violated the law, never do it again, and we'll drop the investigation.

That kind of "deal" is usually called "intimidation."

If a Democratic administration went after a conservative church and threatened its tax-exempt status over statements made during a sermon, it's safe to assume all hell would break loose. You wouldn't be able to turn on a cable channel without hearing some host intoning, "Is there a Democratic war on faith?" Conservatives would fill the airwaves, newsprint, and blog pages with condemnations of "liberal bigots who hate religion." Can we expect a similar response from the left now?

---------------------------------------------------------

The minister who gave the anti-war sermon told people that they could vote for whomever they wished, and that good faithful Christians could choose any of the candidates. Whereas many Right Wing churches across the country preached that their flock must vote for Bush and that any other vote was un-Christian. Those Right Wing churches have NOT had their tax exempt status threatened. Many “Christian” [sic] churches played speeches by Republican Senate Leader Bill Frist and other Republican politicians speaking on political issues as their “sermons” The Bush Admin is not going after any of those obvious violations of IRS rules.

But let’s look at whether the IRS should go after a minister who preached against the war (especially one that has opposed other previous wars as well as this preacher has):

Jesus said it is written an eye for an eye, but I tell you that you must love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, and if someone strikes you on your right cheek you must offer them your left as well. Twice Jesus said Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called Children of God. When Peter cut off the ear of a soldier taking Jesus into captivity, Jesus told him to put away his sword and healed the ear of the soldier who was taking him prisoner. So when a Christian minister preaches against war based on the teachings of Jesus Christ the parish is told that they may loose their tax exempt status. Whereas Right-Wing so called “Christian” [sic] churches all across the country hold pro Bush-Cheney events, broadcast Bill Frist and other Republican politicians as “sermons” and even tell parishioners that if they vote for Kerry they are kicked out of the church, and they don’t lose their tax exempt status. Even though Jesus said render unto Caesar what is Caesars and render unto God what is Gods, and politicians being broadcast from the pulpit is clearly Caesar’s realm in God’s house: a clear violation of Christ’s teachings and IRS rules.

It recently came out in an Italian magazine that before the 2004 election then Cardinal Ratzenberger now Pope Benedict sent a memo to the Catholic Bishops in the US urging them to refuse communion to politicians who don’t oppose abortion. Kerry was his primary target. Ignoring the fact that the Catholic Church is just as against Capital Punishment as it is against abortion, and he didn’t recommend them to refuse communion to pro-Death Penalty politicians. Also then Pope, John Paul II, said that the Iraq War was an unjust war and therefore mass murder. That makes any politician who supports the Iraq War pro-Mass Murder according to the teachings of the Catholic Church. But Ratzenberger did not urge Catholic Clergy to refuse communion to pro-Mass Murder politicians. By instructing Catholic clergy to refuse communion based on one issue, but ignoring the other issues Ratzenberger was opening the entire Catholic Church to the loss of their tax exempt status. The fact that the Bush Administration’s IRS is going after a church that follows the teachings of Christ with regard to war and even said that people could vote for whomever they wanted, but the IRS doesn’t go after Pro-Bush churches that violate the teachings of Christ in order to push a political agenda shows how hypocritical the Bush Administration is and how capriciously (and in this case unjustly) they are enforcing the law is a violation of the constitution that says they must enforce the law fairly as all are or should be subject to the same laws. The current crop of Republicans don’t give a damn about the Constitution or any other law, though. They just look for ways to abuse the law to their own immoral ends. History will show these to be the darkest days in American history.

Senate Leader Bill Frist has Hissy Fit over Senate Shutdown – Takes Ball Goes Home

Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid sick and tired of delay (not DeLay, that’s another criminal matter) from the Republicans who promised a year and a half ago to investigate the Bush Administration’s misuse of forged documents and other questionable intelligence used to send US Troops into Iraq almost three years ago, ordered a closed door meeting of the Senate to demand when the GOP would fulfill that promise. So far Kansas Senator Pat Roberts (Republican) who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee has sat on his ass since promising the American people repeatedly that his committee would hold an investigation into this. Before the 2004 presidential election Roberts said that he would postpone the investigation until after the election so as not to adversely affect the outcome (i.e. cause the American people to realize that the Bush Administration had lied to us in order to start the war). But it has been more than a year since the election and Roberts has continued to delay this investigation. Reid and the Democrats in light of five separate indictments of the Vice President’s Chief of Staff relating to the use of forged documents to justify the war, demanded action on this. Senate Leader Frist responded thusly:

"About 10 minutes ago or so, the United States Senate has been hijacked by the Democratic leadership!" he announced. Never, he said, have "I been [sic] slapped in the face with such an affront to the leadership of this grand institution." Epithets flew from his mouth: "They have no conviction. They have no principles. They have no ideas. This is a pure stunt."

Frist was now sputtering. "This is an affront to me personally. It's an affront to our leadership. It's an affront to the United States of America!" Turning sorrowful, he vowed that "for the next year and a half, I can't trust Senator Reid."

Yes, Senator Frist, you should take this personally. You personally as Senate leader have in all likelihood aided and abetted the cover-up of the misuse of intelligence and forgeries by the Bush Administration in order to start a war that has already killed more than 2000 US Service Members. You should take this very personally. As a relative of a service member called to serve in Iraq and risk her life, I take it very personally. All 300 Million Americans should take this very personally. You have shirked your Constitutionally mandated duty to oversee the Executive Branch. You have failed to do your job you swore to do when you took your oath of office. Yes, you personally, Senator Frist, and the rest of the Republicans in Congress who have stonewalled on fulfilling your Constitutionally mandated duty to oversee the Executive Branch even when asked to by the American people and by the Democratic minority party. It is you, sir, who have no convictions, no principles, and no idea of the damage you have done to this great nation. Or do you?

How the Mainstream Media Got Bush Re-elected - And Screwed America

From the Democratic Daily Blog

Columnists in today’s Boston Globe, L.A. Times, and Washington Post all have pieces that make it very clear that Patrick Fitzgerald had the goods to indict White House aides for obstructing justice in the CIA leak case as of October of last year. Each one of the columnists notes that the MSM was complicit in preventing Fitzgerald from doing so.

Media giants like the New York Times, Washington Post, NBC, and others all played the Pre$$titute roll and had they not, John Kerry would most assuredly be President today. These OP/ED’s are all must-read pieces about the White House’s obstruction of justice, how the MSM is complicit in it, and how it impacted the outcome of the 2004 presidential election.

Robert Scheer notes in his column “What Judy forgot: Your right to know,” in the L.A.Times that: “The most intriguing revelation of Special Prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald’s news conference last week was his assertion that he would have presented his indictment of I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby a year ago if not for the intransigence of reporters who refused to testify before the grand jury. Fitzgerald said that without that delay, “we would have been here in October 2004 instead of October 2005.” Scheer responds “Had that been the case, John Kerry probably would be president of the United States today.”

It is deeply disturbing that the public was left uninformed about such key information because of the posturing of news organizations that claimed to be upholding the free-press guarantee of the 1st Amendment. As Fitzgerald rightly pointed out, “I was not looking for a 1st Amendment showdown.” Nor was one necessary, if reporters had fulfilled their obligation to inform the public, as well as the grand jury, as to what they knew of a possible crime by a government official.

How odd for the press to invoke the Constitution’s prohibition against governmental abridgement of the rights of a free press in a situation in which a top White House official exploited reporters in an attempt to abridge an individual’s right to free speech.

The spirit of a law is more important than the letter, but the reporters who fought to avoid testifying to the grand jury in the investigation that snared Libby upheld neither. They were acting as knowing accomplices to a top White House official’s attempt to discredit a whistle-blower.

Thomas Oliphant says in his column, “The coverup worked” in the Boston Globe, that Fitzgerald “was in effect showing that the quixotic pursuit of a nonexistent right or privilege by some news organizations is one reason President Bush was reelected last year. . . [I]magine last week’s astonishing developments unfolding in the fall of 2004.”

…[T]he obstruction of justice alleged in this case kept us from knowing material things about our leaders at the moment we were deciding whether to keep them in office. In more common speech, obstruction of justice is a coverup, and the coverup worked — just as the Watergate coverup in 1972 kept facts from the public that would have guaranteed Richard Nixon’s defeat.

E.J. Dionne asks the quintessential question in the WaPo, “Has anyone noticed that the coverup worked?” …[L]ibby knew that at least some news organizations would resist having reporters testify. The journalistic “shield” was converted into a shield for the Bush administration’s coverup.

Note the significance of the two dates: October 2004, before President Bush was reelected, and October 2005, after the president was reelected. Those dates make clear why Libby threw sand in the eyes of prosecutors, in the special counsel’s apt metaphor, and helped drag out the investigation.

As long as Bush still faced the voters, the White House wanted Americans to think that officials such as Libby, Karl Rove and Vice President Cheney had nothing to do with the leak campaign to discredit its arch-critic on Iraq, former ambassador Joseph Wilson.

In late September, Pre$$titutes noted “The Media’s Role In The Maligning Of John Kerry.” Today, one day before the anniversary of that fateful day last November, we all bear the injustice of what might have been. Time and time again last year, we witnessed the maligning of Kerry by MSM. As Pre$$titues notes, “if Kerry were president today, America would be on the road to recovery, recovery of our dignity, recovery of our integrity, recovery of our reputation as the world’s moral leader.”

It’s a sad day for America to wake up to, one year later and know that it was all based on lies and it could have been prevented – had the media done their jobs. Instead we have Russert’s, the Fineman’s, the Blizter’s, the Miller’s, the Cooper’s and so many others, to thank for feeding the Disinformation Society and polluting the minds of Americans at a time when, had the truth prevailed, informed voters would have made a different choice.

Oliphant ends his column today asking could Bush “have survived the surfacing of the truth a year ago?” The answer is categorically - NO.

UPDATE: Given today’s news, it appears Bush’s house of cards is finally starting to tumble thanks to Harry Reid, Master of the Rules.

--------------------------------------------------------------

So the Corporate Mainstream Media held up Fitzgerald’s indicting members of the Bush Administration until safely after the 2004 election by refusing to testify until 2005. Any more doubts that the Mainstream Media isn't complicit in the Bush Administration's misleading of America? The American People deserve to know this. This should be shouted from the rooftops!

Public Awakening to Truths about Bush Administration

Recent polls of the American People show:

56% Disapprove of the way George W. Bush is handling his job as president.

55% Rate his presidency since he took office as a failure.

55% Expect his remaining three years will also be a failure.

55% Believe that Vice President Dick Cheney was aware of Lewis Libby’s actions in the revealing of the identity of undercover CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson.

53% Believe the Bush Administration deliberately mislead the American People in order to build support for invading Iraq.

Despite the Corporate Media’s reluctance to fully level with the American People about the Bush Administration and their criminal activity the public is learning the truth bit by bit, and waking up to the theft of our nation by the neo-cons.

GOP says, “Let's give Judge Alito a fair up-or-down vote.” What about Harriet Miers’ fair up-or-down vote? Hypocrites!

After insisting that Democrats give earlier Bush Judicial nominees an “up-or-down vote” conservative Republicans successfully shot down President Bush’s last Supreme Court nominee, Harriet Miers forcing her to withdraw rather than allow her an up-or-down vote before the full Senate. They feared she may not be conservative enough and anti-abortion enough even though Bush insisted that she was a born again evangelical protestant and therefore perfect for the Supreme Court. Now they are saying of Bush’s replacement nominee, "Let's give Judge Alito a fair up-or-down vote, not left or right," said Sen. John Thune, Republican Senator of South Dakota speaking for the GOP. His views were echoed by many other Republicans who had forced Harriet Miers to withdraw. I hope the American People will see this rank hypocrisy and all of the rest of the many hypocritical things the GOP says and does that shows that they are the most dishonest party in America fast approaching the level of honesty of the Communist Party in the former Soviet Union.
